divorce用作動(dòng)詞的基本意思是“與…離婚”,指斷絕夫妻之間的關(guān)系,也可指“分離”,用作名詞表示離婚，分離等含義。

1.離婚

Divorce is on the increase.

離婚案不斷增多。

After the divorce she moved to her mother's old home.

離婚后她搬到她母親的故居去住。

2.分離，脫離

They demanded the divorce of the subsidiary from the parent firm.

他們要求子公司與母公司分離。

They advocated a complete divorce of government and religion.

他們主張政教完全分離。

1.與（某人）離婚，判（某人）離婚

She divorced him after years of unhappiness.

經(jīng)過多年不愉快的生活,她跟他離婚了。

He and Lillian had got divorced.

2.使分離，使脫離

Some painters divorce art from life.

一些畫家使藝術(shù)與生活分離。

In sports, exercise and play are not divorced.
