other后既可接可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)，又可接不可數(shù)名詞。another一般要接可數(shù)名詞單數(shù)。

other

可作形容詞或代詞，做形容詞時(shí)，意思是“別的，其他”，泛指“其他的（人或物）”。

如：

Do you have any other question(s)?

你還有其他問題嗎？

Ask some other people.

問問別人吧！

Put it in your other hand.

把它放在你另一只手里。

another

既可作形容詞，也可作代詞，只能用于三個(gè)或更多的人或物，泛指同類事物中的三者或三者以上的“另一個(gè)”，只能代替或修飾單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞。

如：

I don’t like this one.Please show me another.

我不喜歡這一個(gè)，請(qǐng)給我看看另一個(gè)。

I have three daughters.One is a nurse,another is a teacher,and another is a worker.

我有三個(gè)女兒。一個(gè)是護(hù)士，另一個(gè)是教師，還有一個(gè)是工人。

辨析

（1）the other用于兩者中的另一個(gè)，another指三者以上中的另一個(gè)：

He has two toys.One is for me,the other is for himself.他有兩個(gè)玩具，一個(gè)是給我的，另一個(gè)是給他自己的。

All these are not good.Show me another,please.所有這些都不好，請(qǐng)?jiān)俳o我看一張。

（2）another還有“再……”的意思，other有“另外”的含義：

Have another cup of coffee, please.再喝一杯咖啡吧！

The girl is much cleverer than other three.這女孩比另外三個(gè)都聰明。
