other是指其他的任何一個;而the other則是指特定范圍中的一個。也就是說，other沒有范圍限制，而the other之前一定是給出一個范圍。

other和the other的區(qū)別：

一、other可作形容詞或代詞，做形容詞時，意思是“別的，其他”，泛指“其他的(人或物)。The other指兩個人或物中的一個時，只能用the other，不能用other，此時的other作代詞。

例句：

Do you have any other question(s)?

你還有其他問題嗎?

He has two daughters. One is a nurse, the other is aworker。

他有兩個女兒，一個是護士，另一個是工人。

二、The other后可加單數(shù)名詞，也可加復(fù)數(shù)名詞，此時的other作形容詞。

例句：

Onthe other side of the street，there is a tall tree。

在街道的另一邊，有一棵大樹。

Mary is much taller than the other girls。

瑪麗比其他的女孩高得多。

other和the other的用法

一、other后既可接可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)形式又可接不可數(shù)名詞。

如：可數(shù)名詞：other pencils 其它的鉛筆

other students 其他的學(xué)生

不可數(shù)名詞：other tea 別的/其它的茶

other information 別的/其它消息

二、the other 定指其它的……,其后可接可數(shù)名詞和單數(shù)。

如：the other book 另外的一本書

the other map 另一張地圖

其后也可跟可數(shù)名詞的復(fù)數(shù)形式,如：

the other flowers 其他的花朵

the other teachers 其它的老師們

還可以接不可數(shù)名詞,如：

the other water 剩下的水

the other beer 別的啤酒
